Count Dooku
October 12, 2008
Count Dooku was a good addition to the Star Wars Universe — and he did die in a good way by getting beheaded by Anakin Skywalker. However, there were many things I didn’t like about his character — such as how he used the force. It almost seemed it was a strain for him to use the power of the force to do anything, almost like her had to really focus and put all of his energy towards using his powers. Perhaps that was just a bad acting job on his behalf (or bad directing on George Lucas’ behalf), but I hated the way he used his hand and made it look like her was really trying to make something move.
Now another problem I had with this character were his fighting abilities — but I won’t pin that on him, I will pin it on the screenplay. The biggest problem with the writing was that there were no consistancies between the prequels and the trilogy. The prequels even made Yoda seem much more “angry” in appearance when he used the force, rather than the calm feeling he had in the latter stories. Also, since when are Jedi Knights in attack mode? Whenever Dooku was approached, he was always in defense rather than offense — which really messes up the balance between good and evil because a Jedi is never suppose to attack, but rather defend.
Regardless, the overall character of Dooku was a good addition the story. It also explains why these Count Dooku Mighty Muggs are selling for around $25 online and sold out quickly. I’ll tell ya, the Dark Side sells out much more quickly than the good side these days, that’s for sure. Still, the best place to buy them is at ebay. For more Count Dooku Mighty Muggs, click here.
Bespin Luke
October 7, 2008
Ok, so there is yet another Luke Skywalker wandering the aisles of Mighty Mugg land… and this would the Bespin Luke Skywalker Mighty Muggs, which are contained in Wave 4 of the Star Wars collection. Some others online also refer to this as Battle Damage Luke.
This mugg is to represent Luke from “The Empire Strikes Back,” where he battles the evil sith lord Darth Vader in the Cloud City. Funny that it’s called Bespin Luke, because technically speaking, they were never on Bespin, but rather the Cloud City which hovered above Bespin. So it should be called Cloud City Luke, but I suppose it just sounds lame, so used the word Bespin.
He comes with a black eye and a lightsaber accessory. A nice addition to the collection and we can all suspect that they will likely have another one from “Return of the Jedi” with a green lightsaber soon enough. Luke sells well obviously, so they will keep pumping out the dolls until he doesn’t sell anymore… which is doubtful, since he is the main hero and last of the male Jedi Knights. It would have been great if they could create a limited edition with Luke and Yoda on his back — now that would be cool. Who knows? Maybe that’s in the works! General Grievous
October 7, 2008
General Grievous — now here is a total bad-ass that deserved a far better story line than George Lucas gave to him. You see, while I love Star Wars, I can’t help but to think the first three prequels were lame because Lucas didn’t do a good enough job of explaining a back story for the characters. Great characters like Darth Maul and General Grievous, which were obviously important to the story, had no back stories at all, leaving all Star Wars fans to “guess” why they were in the story in the first place.
Lucas loves to do this in his writing. We are spoon fed these bad guys and how they are suppose to be radical tough guys, and yet they all die in some “simple” way which contrasts to their reputations. This is what I hate most about Lucas and it frustrates me whenever he writes the stories himself… because it is obvious that the guy can’t write at all! He is a story teller, but far from a writer… and there is a difference.
When we first meet up with Grievous in “Attack of the Clones”, he whips out 4 lightsabers and we, the audience, are in awe! He fights Obi-Wan and another 20 seconds later, Grievous is down to only 2 lightsabers. Absolutely no buildup at all and no amazing battle to watch. Another 30 seconds later, Grievous runs off, fleeing like a coward from Obi-Wan. Now c’mon! What bad-ass in the galaxy would run away like a coward after he just told his entire army to back off?!! Damn that Lucas! Just get a writer and stop with the ego trip — it’s still your story but let someone else write it for you!
Anyway, these General Grievous Mighty Muggs are awesome! They hail from Wave 4 of the Star Wars collection. Even if you’re not a collector, what little kid wouldn’t want him to play around with? Kids can actually make Grievous into the true bad-ass that he is rather than have him flee like a coward. He comes with not one, but TWO lightsabers! He is not difficult to find online, but can be pricey compared to most because most vendors know what kids want. Check out the links below — as they offer some decent pricing. Emperor Palpatine
October 5, 2008
Emperor Palpatine, also Lord Sidious, who is brilliantly portrayed by Ian McDiarmid, is the creepiest bad guy in all the galaxy! I tell ya, one thing you have to give Lucas credit for is casting the evil Lords of the Sith. Ian McDiarmid was born to play that role — with his evil cancer smoking laughter and awesome facial expressions, you just can’t help but appreciate the Sith Lord. It kind of makes you wonder why Lucas didn’t think of him when casting for the Emperor in “The Empire Strikes Back,” as he used someone else with really bad makeup… but no matter, because Lucas replaced the actor with digital enhancement in the newer DVD versions.
In “Return of the Jedi” was when we all really got a taste of him and all his evil. A true badass from the start who knows Luke Skywalker’s “Feeble skills are no match for the Dark Side of the Force,” Palpatine also showed us his weakness, as well as WHY the dark side of the force was doomed… ego. For all the powers he had, he couldn’t forsee the true identity of Darth Vader as being a Jedi Knight. Very deep and very cool… what more could you ask for?
These Emperor Palpatine Mighty Muggs aren’t too bad looking. That sinister grin, ugly teeth and glaring eyes reflect his persona well, but I don’t care for the lightning bolt coming out of his hand. I don’t know, but that lightning bolt just looks cheesy to me. Regardless, he is a popular one to get and there seems to be a fluctuation in price like none I’ve seen before… between $7.99 each to as high as $35 each. Very strange indeed — so just make sure you shop around a bit before making your purchase. Try the links below, as they seem to be more consistent in fair pricing. Yoda
October 5, 2008
Yoda — my all time favorite Star Wars character and Jedi Knight. There is still so much mystery surrounding this green little Jedi, such as where does he come from? How long has been around? When did he become a Jedi? Who trained him?
I remember when I first saw him in “The Empire Strikes Back,” he was so funny digging through Luke’s things and fighting with R2-D2 — and that laugh… who can forget that laugh he had! I think what I best liked about Yoda was his speech… I don’t know what you call it, but I call it reverse speech pattern; such as “Mourn them do not… Miss them do not” or “Ready are you? What know you of ready?” And his knowledge of the force is about as good as it gets — and through him, we learn all about the force and its capabilities.
Yoda is the epitome of good. He is the patient one, the thinker, the teacher and the student all rolled up into one. He is the humbled hero who is not recognized for being powerful, but for being masterful. The one true Jedi you can depend upon when all hope seems lost. I collect everything Yoda, from action figures to busts to other great toys. I just love him to death and even though it’s been nearly 30 years since I’ve been introduced to his character, Yoda reminds me of my childhood and still makes me feel like a kid again.
These Yoda Mighty Muggs are great, needless to say. He is part of the Wave 4 Star Wars collection and comes with a lightsaber in hand and is ready to battle. It would have been nice if Hasbro included some grey hairs on his head, but I guess there is only so much they can for around $10. He is hard to find for under $15 – so you have to try online. Amazon had some great deals, as does eBay, but as of this posting his price is going up rapidly — so be foolish not, and links below you should use to grab him! Commander Cody
October 5, 2008
Being a Star Wars fan, I sometimes do not understand why certain characters become so incredibly popular. Now granted, I consider myself a fan, but not a fanatic. This character, Clone Commander Cody, is really odd for me because I just don’t see why he is soooooo popular? Can someone please explain this to me? I read all over the web how people think he is soooooo cool — but what has he really done? I mean, seriously… what makes him so special?
He wasn’t in any of the films for more than 5 minutes worth of screen time — so where does his popularity come from? Is he one of these characters where in the novels he is solely responsible for doing something incredible? I admit I don’t read the novels — as a matter of fact, I pretty much only know Star Wars from the movies created, so perhaps I am just really unaware of what else goes on in the Star Wars universe. But aside from that, could it be that he got his mighty mugg because they needed a character from the clone army? Regardless, I just don’t feel this character is worthy of getting one — but that’s just my own opinion.
Ok, so anyway, these Commander Cody Mighty Muggs come with a blaster. He was introduced in Wave 3 of the Star Wars collection. It looks pretty good and I will add him ONLY BECAUSE I collect all of them, but it’s definitely not on my short list. He seems to be pretty hard to find in retail outlets but can be found online, but expect to pay around $20 or higher for him. Not sure why he is so expensive, as I don’t think he’s worth it — so try ebay by using the link below and look there first. For more Commander Cody Mighty Muggs, click here.
Princess Leia
October 5, 2008
Princess Leia — wowza! How many of you guys had a severe crush on her when you were a kid? I sure as hell did! I remember thinking she was such a babe, and when she kissed Luke Skywalker in the “Empire Strikes Back,” I wanted to be Luke soooooo badly! And good grief, it always appeared that she got better looking as time went on, because when she wore that sexy outfit in Return of the Jedi, all bets were off!
What I liked most about Princess Leia (besides her obvious physical attributes), was her overall character. She was a tough cookie, not afraid of many things yet was extremely vulnerable when it came to her friends. It made her a strong leader with a weakness, which was awesome. Of course, who can forget Yoda revealing to Luke that she was, in fact, his sister — then suddenly all jokes were aimed at that great big kiss in The Empire Strikes Back.
These Princess Leia Mighty Muggs, which is part of Wave 3 from the Star Wars collection, are probably the hardest to find anywhere, whether it be in the retail stores or on the internet. This is likely due to the fact that as of this posting, she is the ONLY female mighty mugg in production, which is rather cool. Of course that will change, but for now, it is a bit of an honor I suppose. She comes with a blaster and that hysterical bun style hairdo. For more Princess Leia Mighty Muggs, click here.
Lando Calrissian
October 5, 2008
Now here’s a great character that I always loved — Lando Calrissian, portrayed the great Billy Dee Williams. I remember when I was a kid and I saw “The Empire Strikes Back,” I had a few friends of mine that were black. They were so excited to see Lando and kept saying “The first black man in Space!” For me, being a white kid from surburbia, it didn’t really register with me. I just thought to myself, “Who cares if he’s black — he’s just cool!”
Now it’s 30 years later and I realize what a big deal it was. I mean, we’re talking about the biggest money making film of all time, a film loaded with aliens, creatures and beings from another world… yet among them, how many were actually black? But at least with the prequels — we now have a black Jedi Knight, being Mace Windu (portrayed by the great Samuel L. Jackson), which is nice, as Mace Windu is probably one of the most powerful Jedi Knights in the galaxy.
Anyway, back to my point — Lando was simply one of the coolest characters in the Star Wars Universe. He was just like Han Solo — but more smooth and business like. A charmer all the way! These Lando Calrissian Mighty Muggs are part of the Wave 3 collection from the Star Wars set. He comes with his classic cape, brilliant smile and raised eyebrow too! I love this one and all collectors should grab it. Rather hard to find, but check the links below if you don’t have your own resources. Prices are better on eBay obviously. Jango Fett
October 4, 2008
Jango Fett, father to Boba Fett, was another great refreshing character added to the Star Wars universe in the Clone Wars period. I actually liked him much more than Boba Fett because he appeared to be far more superior in skill as a bounty hunter than his son. Obviously he was, since the Clone Army was in fact molded after him. And at least he died with honor when he was up against Mace Windu and he did kind of kick Obi-Wan’s butt when they faught.
These Jango Fett Mighty Muggs are pretty cool as you can see. He comes with double blasters and sports a jet pack too. That silver costume just looks bad-ass too, more stream lined than Boba Fett. Many kids want this toy, so finding it offline in retail outlets is hard to come by. But, I have personally seen this in Walmart in my neck of the woods, so you might too. If not, then check the links I have provided below. For more Jango Fett Mighty Muggs, click here.
Luke Skywalker
October 3, 2008
Luke Skywalker is my third most favorite character. I love his character. I can remember when I was little watching the commercials on TV and I saw Luke swing across the deck with Leia and it was so exciting to watch. My dad immediately said “Ok, let’s go see it!”
My favorite scene is at the end of Episode IV when Luke is all alone in the x-wing fighter and everybody died. He is flying down the tunnel and Ben says to him, “Use the Force Luke… search your feelings… let go!” And just then Luke turns off his target tracking device. When you’re a little kid, watching that scene is so thrilling because you don’t know what’s going to happen next, but you root for him and scream “C’mon Luke! You can do it!”
So obviously, you’d have to be a complete moron not to have Luke Skywalker Mighty Muggs in your collection! Nuff said!
He’s not so pricey nor hard to find, so use the links below and get the best deal found thus far! For more Luke Skywalker Mighty Muggs, click here.
